The voices of students and families are the most important voices in any school system. The work of successful schools is shaped by the needs, priorities, and realities of students and families. For too long in Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD), many students and families have struggled to have their voices heard as a variety of crises and challenges at our school district have crowded them out.
The PASS Coalition is determined to give students and families the voice they deserve. PASS stands for Parents Advocating for Student Success because that is the essential ingredient to successful schools and a thriving school district. We want to empower students and families to advocate for themselves and their communities. We will do this by providing them tools and platforms to advocate. Working with Valley Vision, we will host a series of community forums to elevate the voices of students and families. Working with PIQE and Sierra Health, we will develop and promote programs that train parents at targeted schools to organize and advocate. Our goal is to begin to build from the bottom up the type of schools and school district our community deserves.
